Contact form

When you send a message through the contact form, I store your name, email address, what and when you're asking about, your message, the time you sent it, and a one-way hashed marker of your network address (used only to limit abuse; it cannot be reversed). This is kept for 12 months so I can follow up on enquiries and bookings, and is then deleted automatically — a job runs every night and removes anything older than that.

Client galleries

If I've photographed you, your proofs go in a private gallery at a web address of its own, opened with a short code I send you. It isn't listed anywhere, search engines are asked not to index it, and the photographs are never served from a public link — every image passes through the site with your code checked first. If a code is typed in wrongly, that attempt is counted against the same one-way hashed marker of a network address the contact form uses (only to stop guessing; it cannot be reversed), and those records are deleted within a day.

While you're choosing, the gallery stores which photographs you've picked,any notes you type under them, and — each time you press Send — a copy of that selection as it stood, so I have a record of what you asked for. Signing in sets one cookie for that gallery, which keeps you signed in on that device for 30 days and does nothing else. There's no analytics or tracking inside a gallery.

The enlarged proofs — the version you see when you open a photograph — are watermarked. The small ones in the grid are not; they're too small to be worth marking. If I've enabled downloads for your gallery you can also download them: the watermarked proofs, or the finished originals, depending on what we've agreed.

When a gallery closes it stays readable for a while and then the photographs in it are deleted: 90 days after it closes, the image files are removed from storage automatically. Your picks and notes are kept beyond that as my record of the job, unless you ask me to delete them. The photographs themselves stay in my own archive, off this site, as they always have.

This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand traffic. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't track you across sites.
